Area residents interested in careers in the education and healthcare fields are invited to a free career fair sponsored by the Luzerne/Schuylkill Workforce Investment Board (L/S WIB) and PA CareerLink®, Hazleton Office.
The Education and Health Career Fair will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the PA CareerLink®, Hazleton Office, 75 N. Laurel St., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of PA Health Careers Week 2011, a statewide initiative that informs the public about healthcare careers.
The event is open to the public and will feature information about careers in health care and education as related to healthcare occupations.
“Projections from the Pennsylvania Center for Workforce Information and Analysis show that there will be more than 8,500 new jobs openings in health care every year until 2018 in the six most in-demand healthcare occupations alone,” said L/S WIB Executive Director Lucyann Vierling. “Healthcare careers are a great opportunity, offering a diverse choice of employment, good compensation and plenty of opportunities for advancement.”
Vierling said the Hazleton fair is designed to help students and adult learners explore a variety of career paths in health care as well as the educational requirements for healthcare jobs.
“We felt education and health care were a natural combination for this career fair, which will feature institutions that conduct training for a variety of jobs related to health care. The information that attendees learn at the career fair will be of great benefit to them in their search for a career in these fields,” she said.
Representatives from NSB Trainers’ Practical Nursing program, McCann School of Business & Technology, New Horizons Computer and Technology, Luzerne County Community College, Penn State University, Greater Hazleton Health Alliance, Hazleton Area Career and Technical Center, Bloomsburg University and Keystone Job Corps Center will attend the event to provide information on their organizations and answer questions about careers in education and health care. Students from NSB Trainers will offer free blood pressure screenings during the fair.
L/S WIB brings together business, industry, education, economic development and community organizations to participate with the public workforce system to identify workforce challenges and develop strategies and solutions to address those challenges. The organization’s mission is to ensure a demand-driven world-class workforce system aligned with economic development and education.
